This course enables students to read and enjoy Chaucer and other Middle English writers. There is much more to Chaucer than we could possibly cover in one semester, but this course provides a basic familiarity with the works of a major English poet and an appreciation of his art. In addition, an understanding of Chaucer and his world will greatly enrich reading of subsequent writers of literature in English.
