Debra Purdy

Special Lecturer Debra Purdy

Debra Purdy earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Idaho in 1985, then studied science and technology at the University of New Mexico while working as a technical researcher for an avionics company and a contact lens manufacturer. She earned her Master’s degree in Technical Communication at Boise State University in 1997, focusing on workplace writing. A small business owner and corporate trainer, she has taught English, technical communication, and business writing courses at Boise State since 1995. Debra’s research efforts have focused on the writing of effective workplace documents, usability testing, and presentation materials. Most recently, Debra has been involved with a group of other scholars here at Boise State who have focused on learning best practices for teaching writing online. Debra is also involved in the community and on campus as a volunteer and leader. She was named by the Idaho Business Review as a Woman of the Year in 2006 and was named one of the “Honored 80″ by the Junior League of Boise in 2008. In 2010, Debra helped colonize the women’s fraternity Alpha Gamma Delta at BSU and was appointed the collegiate women’s Chapter Advisor in 2012.
