About Sigma Tau Delta*
Sigma Tau Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature. Zeta Epsilon is one of over 600 chapters that recognize English students for their outstanding achievements and promote excellence in English language and literature. Our goal is to facilitate academic, professional, and personal growth for our members. Members become members-for-life associated with their local chapter or as part of the Alumni Epsilon Chapter for continued networking and participation in international activities. HistorySigma Tau Delta has a long and distinguished history beginning in 1924. Historian Dr. Elva Bell McLin writes about Judson Q. Owen, founder of Sigma Tau Delta. The initial site for this international organization was at Wesleyan University, South Dakota. The entire paper is available through our International Web site, http://www.english.org/, and it contains our rich history from beginnings to 1988.
