I am graduating in December 2008 with a degree in Communication / English, with an emphasis in humanities and rhetoric. I don’t plan to stop my education then but will continue in a graduate program. That focus is not yet determined, because I am indecisive and I don’t want to be limited.

I am an active person who enjoys being outdoors as much as I do curled-up reading a book or typing fervently (or passively) at my computer. I run, bike, camp, hike, play soccer, and walk Jack (our dog) as often as I can. My daughter, Deonnee, keeps me young and I keep her moving. My free time is sparse, but I try to enjoy every minute and not let a single thing escape my attention.

I fell into Sigma Tau Delta last fall when then President, Kim Lock, needed someone to fill the treasurer position. I didn’t know a thing about Sigma Tau Delta, but I quickly learned what we were about. Now, as president, I’ve begun to learn about the internal workings of our club on campus. Serving as treasurer was a rewarding experience and I am confident that filling the role of president will be just as rewarding.

My challenge this year is to revive Sigma Tau Delta’s community. We work hard and we love what we do. This needs to be rewarded. With like-minded people, we should cultivate a community that helps, shares, and learns with one another outside of the university.

My recent exchange to Germany was certainly not one I had planned, but rather one that I found myself falling into! I spent my junior year of high school as a Congress-Bundestag exchange student. I then entered university as an English student, which left me no time for additional German courses! I kept in contact with my friends and host family in Germany and halfway through my junior year in college, I decided to add German as a second major. As the year progressed, I started to become more engulfed in the German culture and I found that I missed it so much – so much, in fact, that I had already committed to another exchange before I had even decided what I wanted to do! I spent the summer semester of 2007 in Saarbruecken in the Saarland and it was an experience that cannot compare to anything I have ever done. I was lucky enough to be able to stroll along the Saar River and stop for the local cuisine. I made friends I will never forget and I gladly recommend time in Germany to anyone who even considers it!

I am an out of state student from Winnemucca, Nevada and currently a junior studying English Teaching with a minor in Geography. I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since 3rd grade and since reading and writing were two of my favorite things to do I decided to go with English Teaching. I want to teach at the secondary level and I hope to share the joy that English brings me with the students I'm going to teach. When I graduate I want to teach anywhere and everywhere. In foreign countries or in any of the 50 states, I will go where I am needed.

I have been a member of Sigma Tau Delta for a little over a year now and have loved it. I have become more involved with our society since becoming an officer, I get to see new faces and make new friends. Being surrounded by English majors always puts a smile on my face.

I also love being outdoors. Hiking, mountain biking, sipping a cup of tea while outside reading a book on my porch, you name it, I love it! I am also a Big Sister through the Big Brother Big Sister Program, my little, Ashley, and I have been matched for almost two years.
