ENGL 597 Special Topics

This graduate seminar in technical communication is an introduction to Extensible Markup Language (XML), including XHTML, which has recently been recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium. Topics to be covered include the comparative differences among SGML, XML, and HTML; the study of XML and XHTML specifications; the writing of XML files, document type definitions (DTDs), and CSS/XSL style sheets; and applications of XML for the integration and processing of web data dynamically, for cross-platforming, for access by non-computer devices, and for accessibility by the disabled. As part of the course, students will create documents in XML and XHTML PREREQ: None.
