Boise State Graduate Anna Warns

Anna Warns graduated December of 2006 with a major in English Literature. She is currently working on her second quarter of her Masters degree in Library and Information Sciences at the University of Washington. She works at the Ada County Library.

Anna says that her major has helped her to be a better writer and communicate effectively. “When you know how to use language you can use it to your advantage. That’s helpful! It helps me to be a more well rounded person in general.”

I asked her what her best experience as an English major was while attending BSU. “I have many great experiences. The all-encompassing one would be being the president of the English Majors Association, which allowed me to just interact with the faculty and the students in a totally different way. I was so much more invested in the department after being involved and it just made my experience at BSU.”

Her advice to English majors is to get involved with the department as much as you can. “Your work as an English major is so solitary that you feel like you just coming to class, you leave and you do your work on your own, but if you are getting involved in the department it enriches your experience. If you can feel invested in what you are doing with four years of your life it makes a huge difference. My first two years were so-so, and then I got involved and I got to know people on a different level and that changed it for me.”
