Boise State University is seeking student submissions for the annual President’s Writing Awards. The contest is open to all currently enrolled Boise State undergraduate students.

Two prizes will be awarded in each category (visit the Writing Center's website for the more information about this year's prizes). Essays prepared for coursework are eligible but previously published essays are not. A student may enter only one category and may submit no more than one entry.

Categories include:

Submissions might analyze a piece of literature, a theatrical performance, a work of visual art, a historical moment, a philosophical argument or a social movement. Essays can be up to 3,000 words, and any questions about possible topics may be directed to the Writing Center at
writing@boisestate.edu.

• Research-based. A researched-based, documented article or essay. The genre and topic is open. May be up to 3,000 words.

• Unit Design Category. This submission should be a completely fleshed-out unit of study designed to be taught to middle or high school students. The unit should include an overall description and justification of the unit, as well as examples of individual lessons that fit the overall purpose of the unit.

• Opinion Paper. Submissions in this category should adhere to the format of the short, opinion-based essay about a matter of public or general interest. The submission may have a personal focus.

The deadline for submissions is in March each year (visit the Writing Center's website for more information about this year's deadline). Students may submit papers both electronically and traditionally. To submit electronically, send the submission as a Word attachment to deannajones@boisestate.edu.  The submission should include your name, address, phone number, student ID number and contest category; also, the student’s name should not appear on the attachment.

Manuscripts submitted traditionally should be typed and double-spaced. Students should submit an envelope listing the author’s name, address, phone number, student number and contest category. The author’s name should not appear on the manuscript. Manuscripts will not be returned.
