I’m Jan Roser and I’m a lecturer for the English Department. Typically, I teach introductory courses for the first-year writing department as well as freshman research writing for the Honor’s College. I have an M.A. in Rhetoric & Composition from Boise State University and a B.S. in Chemistry from Eastern Washington University. Prior to teaching research, I engaged in research in Chicago with Abbot Laboratories and in Seattle at NeoRx Corporation where I explored research on parasitic diseases, breast cancer, and prostate specific antigen.

Because of my scientific background, I incorporate inquiry, the scientific method and metacognition into my writing classes. I believe this helps my students think about reading, writing and research across the disciplines. My other research interests include genre, transfer, rhetorical adaptation and educational theory. This fall I’ll be teaching several Introduction to College Writing courses and an Honors Research Writing course.
