Project SHINE

Project SHINE (Students Helping in the Naturalization of Elders) is a national service-learning initiative in which university students assist elder refugees and immigrants in their efforts to learn English and obtain citizenship.  At the local level, Boise State Project SHINE is supported by the Idaho Office for Refugees, through a grant from the Office of Refugee Resettlement.  Under the direction of Dr. Casey Keck, students have opportunities to serve as volunteers in the elders class at the English Language Center in Boise, Idaho.  Students who have volunteered for multiple semesters are also eligible to apply for research assistantships in the area of elder second language acquisition.
