The M.A. in English with an emphasis in Literature requires either 33 credit hours of coursework, including a 3-credit Thesis, Portfolio, or Project, or 36 credits of coursework (without a Thesis, Portfolio, or Project). 15 to 18 credits must be from literature, literary theory, and literary research courses. The remaining credits are electives that may be in literature or in other areas of the English Department graduate offerings.

ENGLISH ELECTIVES (15 CREDITS)
To be selected from graduate offerings in Literature, Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical Communication, Creative Writing and English Education. The electives may include a maximum of six credits of ENGL 400G courses and a maximum of three credits of independent work in ENGL 595, ENGL 596, and ENGL 696.
